Five Nights at Christmas

When the cold sets in the animatronics change address - now they hunt not in a warm pizzeria but in a house in a snowy forest. In this version of FNAF a genuinely unpleasant nightmare and Christmas cheer sit right on top of each other. How those two things go together is something the mechanical toys will demonstrate.

Gameplay

Here you survive five nights in an unfamiliar house with only a flashlight. As is classic for the genre, the charge is limited - you get through the night on what you have. The cold makes it worse, because the character can fall ill at any point. And do not forget the Snowman, who likes to arrive without warning.

The game starts as you would expect - you are in a beautifully decorated room. There are windows, doors, a fireplace and a string of lights. Those lights look uncomfortably like glowing eyes, so they pull your attention where it should not go. You have to watch the whole perimeter so you do not miss something arriving. At some point the windows need closing, and it has to be done quickly. Miss the moment and the robots are inside, and there is nothing to be done about it.

The flashlight both scares things off and lights your way. In this version you can also pick up items, if they turn out to be useful.

What the decorations are doing to you

• Every string of lights is a false positive waiting to happen
• The fireplace glow masks movement on that side of the room
• Windows close slower than doors, so react to them earlier
• Cold ticks down whether or not anything is attacking
